These types of machines have been around for quite some time now and they are slowly making their way onto mainstream market as we speak. But, before jumping straight to the list down below, let’s take a moment to clear out what exactly these automatic machines really are.
To start off with this article, you first need to know that there are basically 3 main types of espresso machines, and they are as follows:
- Semi-automatic (most customization)
- Automatic (medium customization)
- Super automatic (no customization)
Semi-automatic machines offer the most brewing options as most of their functions can be tampered with, while automatic ones (as you can conclude from their name) tend to have more automated functions. Super automatic, on the other hand, are fully automatic machines that work with just a few button presses and that’s It – your espresso is done!
Now if you are one of those people who like to play around with their espresso machines but you are still not comfortable enough behind a manual or a semi-automatic one, then the answer you are looking for are surely automatic espresso machines.
Now that we have cleared that up, I am going to show you my list of 4 best automatic espresso machine that are worth every single buck you’ll spend on them. All 4 machines are in separate price ranges which means there will be something for everyone. With this being said, let’s start off with the list!
4. Philips Saeco HD8327/47 Poemia
This espresso machine is made out of stainless steel and has a nice silver finish which will make it stand out on your kitchen counter… and cause quite a few head turns its way. Other than that, I am talking about a top quality espresso machine that can be considered as a real budget buy because it is competitively price. But don’t let its low price fool you – this machine has quite a bit of tricks up its sleeve and I am here to tell you all about them.
It comes with pressurized portafilter which guarantees a quality cream for your espresso shots. In addition to this, another great feature is that it sports a stainless steel cup warmer along with a 15 bar pump which is considered as a standard in the industry. Another very important aspect is that it works on both ground coffee and espresso pods. It comes with 2 nozzles which means you can make two espresso shots at once, which is always great, especially when you consider the fact that you can get this thing for just under $200.
With all these things being said, keep in mind that this is still an entry level machine and that it does not possess some of the more advanced features which you get from $500+ machines… but in this price range, it does not get much better than the Phillips Saeco HD8327 / 47 Poemia Top Espresso Machine. It’s a really cheap jewel in every sense of the word. I have been using it for about six months and I LOVE IT!
3. Saeco Automatic
Saeco Automatic might not look like much, but it will amaze you with its high quality espresso shots that will leave you wanting more! The classic looking Saeco Automatic is designed to brew the best espresso on every occasion. It looks classic, feels classic and performs classic! If it was a painting, it would be considered as the Mona Lisa, that’s for sure.
Saeco is on the borderline between automatic and super automatic espresso machines due to the fact that it doesn’t have that much brewing customizability, meaning most of its features are fully automatic. Its automatic features range from rinsing, descaling and boiler temperatures, while you can still play around with the classic milk frother and bean hopper.
Judging by its appearance, which is truth be told not the prettiest one out there (or perhaps it’s just me not liking classical looking espresso machines), you will be a bit surprised when you see the price of this product. It goes around $600 which suggests that there’s more to the Saeco Automatic than meets the eye!
2. DeLonghi ECAM22110SB
Even though it doesn’t have the prettiest name in the bunch, DeLonghi’s ECAM 22110SB is an outstanding espresso brewer which will manage to fit in the narrowest of places. Needless to say, one of its main selling points is its compact size and the fact that, despite it, it can achieve almost everything full sized machines can.
In addition to espresso brewing, as its name suggests, this machine can also make find latte and cappuccino as well. This amount of versatility is possible with a milk frothing system that mixes steam and milk in order to create creamy froths that will make your drinks look and taste perfect all the time! Another very interesting feature of this machine is surely the Energy Saving function that comes in a form of a tiny switch. When it is enabled, the machine will save up to whopping 77% of energy and, of course, that is something your electricity bill will thankful for. Combine all of the things that I mentioned above with its built in water filtration system, and you will soon realize why is DeLonghi so successful on the espresso machines market…
Lots of functionality at such a small size factor makes this machine quite pricey. In other words, DeLonghi ECAM22110SB Compact Automatic Cappuccino, Latte and Espresso Machine will set you back for around $900 which is quite a bit of money for home use. I’ve seen coffee shops with cheaper espresso machines than this, but then again, that’s none of my business… Despite its high price, many people are opting for it because of its sheer performance and small size which makes it ideal for small to medium kitchen counters where these machines will gather quite a bit of amazed looks from your friends and family.
1. Breville BES870XL Barista
Breville is one of the top tier espresso machine manufacturers and is making a great name for itself in recent years. With a quality line of products for both home and commercial use, Breville is making its way into thousands of homes and coffee shops worldwide. This, of course, could not be done without excellent products, among which is their new BES870XL Barista Express Espresso Machine.
It’s an automatic espresso machine with lots of programmable functions that will surely be of much use to you. In addition to all usual mechanisms that come with automatic machines, the BES870XL comes with an extra-large bean hopper as well as a handy charcoal filter built in its water tank, which is also quite big as it can hold up to 64 ounces of water. Both of these are fully removable for easier cleaning purposes. In addition to all of this, the BES870XL also features both pressurized and non-pressurized porta filters, and customizable functions such as grind amount, size and filter size.
When it comes to the looks of this machine, I’m happy to inform you that it is made out of stainless steel aluminum thermal coil which helps with temperature control a lot better than regular thermal blocks that are usually the case with similarly priced espresso machines. With this being said, the BES870XL can be found for around $500 and as such, it gives a great balance when it comes to price / performance aspect.
And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen… The top 4 best automatic espresso machine that will brew amazing espresso – every time… With little to no effort on your side.
Keep in mind that these are based on my personal opinion and that you are entitled to yours if you don’t agree with me. But, then again, if you opt for one of these machines, you will realize that I was right! J
